Jigawa LG commission says it spent N59 million in 2021 to enhance LG administration

The Executive Chairman of the Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (Rtd), has revealed that a total of N59,691,500 was expended by the Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission from January to December last year in the execution of various programmes aimed to enhance quality service delivery in the local government administration of the state.
The Chairman while addressing a press conference on the activities of the Commission at its conference hall said parts of the Programmes include the sponsoring of 194 number staff for a special training programme on sanitary overseers, forest guards, and assistant works superintendents.

Others include conducting 56 workshops and seminars at a cost of N218,263,675.00, sponsoring 634 local government staff of the 27 LGAs into various in-service training programmes at various institutes of higher learning across the state and the country, aimed to update their certification for improved productivity in service.
On the staff welfare, the Chairman stated that the commission has approved the promotion of 1,433 senior local government staff across the 27 LGAs in Jigawa state and also approved the payment of retirement benefits of 308 local government staff.
Other payments were the approval of retirement benefits to 278 local government education authority staffers, alongside the payment of death benefits to 86 local government education authority retiring staffers.
Similarly, the commission has approved the posting of 54 local government senior staff like Director Administration and General Services, and Director Planning, Research, and Statistics.
On areas of discipline and punctuality to duty, the commission has introduced the adoption of un-scheduled working visits periodically to almost all the 27 LGAs to curtail laxity, and truancy to ensure punctuality to duty on staffers of the 27 LGAs in the state.
Ringim warned that henceforth the commission will not condone laxity, truancy, and lateness to work as the Commission provided 200 attendance registers in all the 27 Local Government Councils to ensure proper attendance and punctuality to duty to all staff, as stiff penalty awaits erring staff who violates the laid down government regulations.
