The fifth Waziri of Sullubawa Dynasty in Katsina Emirate Council, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Lugga, has resigned from the emirate council.

This is sequel to a query issued to him by the Council on the grounds that he discussed issues of insecurity in Ilorin, Kwara State, without permission from the council.

At the gathering in Ilorin, while responding to questions from journalists, he was reported to have said banditry and insurgency have led to the closure of all schools and other institutions in eight LGAs of Katsina.

He was also reported to have said that all the district heads from the eight frontlines LGAs in Katsina had relocated to the state capital, adding that no single day in the last one and a half years that somebody would not be killed or abducted in the state.

“We are really in a state of war. It is more than conflict and the situation is more than you think. Forget about what you read in the media, I am there and I know the reality,” Lugga was reported to have said.

However, this was said not to have gone down well with the emirate council, which issued him a query.

Responding, the Professor replied to the three issues raised by the council and thereafter tendered his resignation.

The two-page letter traced the history of Waziriship by his family lineage of KANEM BAKASHE that hails from Niger Republic in 1579 and the history of his clan Waziri leadership that began in 1906.

He also explained how he assumed the Waziri position in 2002 and now resigned in 2022.

The Waziri expressed gratitude to the Emir of Katsina, Dr Abdulmummuni Kabir Usman for the opportunity and expressed regret for inconveniences his resignation may cause to him and the Emirate Council.

Speaking on behalf of the emirate council, Kauran Katsina, Alh. Nuhu Abdulkadir Rimi, confirmed the development, saying the resignation letter was received.

He added that the council would deliberate on it and make a decision on the matter.

The Waziri, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Lugga was born in 1949 and currently a holder of two Doctorate Degrees on conflict resolutions mechanism and attained professorial chair on conflict resolutions mechanism.

He is one of the architects and founders of Katsina Islamic University, Alqalam, the Gidauniyar jahar Katsina, and the Gidauniyar Ilmin jahar Katsina.

Alhaji Sani Abubakar Lugga has a history of resignation from a post if he is ineffective, as done when he was a commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport during military administration in Katsina state.

He also resigned from his position at the Alqalam university, Katsina sometimes back and has now renounced the Waziri position.
