An angry mob has burnt two suspected ritualists for raping a 10-year-old girl to death and harvesting her vital organs in Ede-Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to an eyewitness, Ede-Oballa community had been in pain and sorrow since the incident happened last week Monday.
He said the lifeless body of a 10-year-old girl from the community was found in a nearby bush with some of her vital organs like breast and vagina removed.
“Only ritualists will rape a girl to death and remove her vital organs to go use it for their evil act.
“So on Monday when residents heard that the perpetrators of that evil act have been arrested by Neighbourhood Watch, everybody rushed to the Ede-Oballa Neighborhood Watch office.
“The huge crowd overpowered the local security men and set the two ritualists on fire, while everyone watch as they burn to death.
“It’s the intention of the neighbourhood security to take the ritualists to police station but they were overpowered by the mob,” he said.
Reacting to the incident, Val Omeje, President General of Ede-Oballa community, and Hyginus Ogbu, councilor representing the area confirmed the killing of the suspected ritualists by mob that overpowered local security.
They said residents were angry over the incident and got more provoked when they realised the ritualists were members of the community.
Daily Independent reports that Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, was contacted and has promised to get back to the press on the matter.
