Windstorm Disaster: Jigawa gov’t inaugurates relief committee

Story from Dahiru SULEIMAN, Dutse

The Jigawa State Government has inaugurated a 15-man windstorm relief committee headed by the Kafin-Hausa Council Chairman, Malam Muhammadu Saminu, to promptly relocate, and provide foodstuffs, shelter and healthcare to the surviving victims of a windstorm disaster which recently claimed the lives of six persons, destroyed houses and left several others injured.

Inaugurating the Committee at the Council Chamber, the state Acting Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, called on the state and federal government agencies to as a matter of urgency provide an enabling environment for the resettlement of the victims as well as assist them with the basic needs to alleviate their sufferings.

Recall that the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Relief Agency, Alhaji Yusuf Sani, had confirmed that a heavy downpour, with windstorm, had wreaked havoc on the Kafi-Hausa community and destroyed several houses, of which the agency was conducting a damage assessment exercise to ascertain the extent of destruction caused by the disaster.
