Odunayo Adekuoroye, one of Nigeria’s contingent at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, has won a gold medal in wrestling, making the sixth for the country.
Adekuoroye won the gold in the Women’s 57kg Freestyle Wrestling after beating Anshu Malik of India.

The 2018 Commonwealth champion defeated her opponent 6-4 in the final to successfully defend the crown she won in Ghana four years ago.
Her journey to the final, the reigning African champion defeated Canada’s Hannah Taylor in the semis in a swashbuckling 10-0 victory.
The win further increases Nigeria’s gold medals so far to seven, three silver and six bronze medals.
Australia tops the medal chart with 50 gold, 43 silver and 43 bronze while hosts England are second with 45 gold, 44 silver and 36 bronze as at the time this report.
