Cemetery guards apprehend man trying to steal corpse in Kebbi
Cemetery attendants in Koko Town of Koko Besse Local Government Area in Kebbi State have apprehended one Yahaya Mamu, 28 while trying to steal a corpse in the cemetery.
Speaking with newsmen in Koko Town over the development, Malam Abdullahi Idris Koko said Mamu was apprehended while dismantling a grave to steal a corpse.
“The suspect came into the cemetery in the evening just like other visitors were coming to offer prayers to their dead colleagues, relations and other well-wishers but unfortunately, we saw him digging up a grave, trying to steal a corpse that was inside, we then rushed to the place and apprehended him,” Koko said.
“We later handed him over to Koko Divisional Police Office for prosecution.”
Chairman Koko Besse Local Government, Honourable Aminu Garba Koko, also confirmed the unfortunate incident to journalists, noting that his council will follow the case to ensure the culprit is prosecuted by a court of law.
He promised to beef up security around the cemeteries under the local government area.
