Eleven killed, nine injured in fatal road crash

At least 11 people have lost their lives, while nine others sustained injuries following a fatal road accident involving an overloaded vehicle in Jigawa State.

The incident occurred when the car, reportedly carrying more passengers than its capacity, lost control and crashed into a tree along the highway. Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision was severe, leaving several passengers trapped in the wreckage.

Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to rescue victims. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated to a mortuary.

Officials attributed the crash to overloading and possible speeding, warning motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid avoidable tragedies. Authorities also renewed calls for drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to prioritize passenger safety at all times.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
