Gov. Ganduje’s daughter faces divorce scandal

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

A Sharia Court Judge, Justice Abdullahi Halliru, yesterday in Kano has sent away journalists who converged in his Court to listen to a divorce case involving the daughter of the Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who dragged her husband to the Sharia Court seeking an immediate divorce.

Asiya Balaraba had filed a divorce application before the court to seek a separation between her and her husband Inuwa Uba, after 16 years of marriage on the ground that she is no longer enjoying the marriage, and also that the husband has fraudulently used his position and diverted her properties and money into his personal use.

The judge at this juncture told members of the press that the woman in question that is seeking the divorce is the daughter of the current Kano State Governor, and as such, her case should be treated with special privilege. He, therefore, asked members of the press and other interested parties that went to the court to vacate their seats and leave the courtroom.

He opted to hear the case in his chamber, with a plea that though all Nigerians are equal, there are cases that need less publicity, and as such, this is one of such cases, because, in the end, the couples may settle out of court when they were already massively publicized to the public.

According to a reliable source from the Governor’s daughter, some security agencies went to the couple’s house in Kano, broke into their apartment at Technical Staff Quarters and carted away some valuable documents belonging to the couple, even though it was suspected that it must be an inside arrangement.
