Kannywood mourns the demise of ‘Dadin Kowa’ actor Kawu Mala

Kannywood, the Hausa-language film industry in northern Nigeria, is currently mourning the loss of one of its esteemed members.

Aminu Mahmud, widely known as Kawu Mala for his role in the popular TV series ‘Dadin Kowa,’ which airs on Arewa24, has passed away.

The actor succumbed to a long-standing heart ailment on Sunday evening.

With a career spanning over two decades, Mala gained significant popularity through his leading role in the Dadin Kowa TV series.

Mala is survived by his wife and over 10 children.

On Monday morning, he was laid to rest at the Haye cemetery in the Nasarawa local government area of Kano State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Murtala Karabiti, one of his acting colleagues, expressed deep sorrow over Mala’s demise, describing it as an irreplaceable loss that has left a significant void in the industry.

Karabiti further emphasized Mala’s enduring legacy, highlighting his unwavering commitment to the growth of filmmaking in northern Nigeria.

“Doctor,” as Mala was fondly called by his peers, was universally regarded as a friend and a brother.

Having known him for more than 20 years, Karabiti attested to Mala’s impeccable character, stating that he had never heard a single negative comment about him.

As the industry mourns his passing, it is incumbent upon us to offer prayers for the repose of his soul, added Karabiti.
