Lagos pastor in court for allegedly pocketing N1.1 million in failed spiritual work
A 40-year-old pastor named David Ihejirika has been brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, accused of defrauding a woman who sought his help in regaining her husband’s love.
The pastor, facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense, causing a breach of peace, and stealing, appeared before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni.
Despite the accusations, he pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, Dr. Simon Uche, the defendant committed the offense at “The Strip of Jesus Christ Church” in Ajangbadi, Ojo, sometime in 2021.
Allegedly, Ihejirika convinced the complainant, Mrs. Chinwe Nwafor, to hand over a sum of N1.1 million with the promise of performing “spiritual work” to reunite her with her husband.
However, it turned out to be a false representation, as the pastor purportedly pocketed the money without fulfilling his promise.
The deceitful actions of the defendant were deemed likely to disrupt public peace, leading to charges under sections 168, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
During the court hearing, bail was granted to the defendant in the amount of N500,000, on the condition that he provided two sureties in the same sum.
The case was adjourned until June 7 for trial.
