Court sentences man to death for killing girlfriend
An Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, to death by hanging for the murder of his girlfriend, Imaobong Udo.
Nelson was convicted after the court found him guilty of murder and held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Delivering judgment, the presiding judge ruled that evidence presented before the court clearly established that the convict intentionally caused the death of the deceased.
The prosecution told the court that the incident occurred after a disagreement between the couple, which later resulted in the death of Imaobong Udo. Following investigations, security operatives arrested the suspect and charged him to court.

During the trial, witnesses testified before the court while exhibits linked to the case were tendered by the prosecution to support the charge against the defendant.
After reviewing the evidence and arguments presented by both parties, the court held that the prosecution had sufficiently established the offence of murder against the accused.

The judge subsequently sentenced Nelson to death by hanging in line with the provisions of the law.
The case attracted widespread public attention following reports surrounding the circumstances that led to the death of the victim.
