Governor Zulum reappoints 6 commissioners, nominates 18 for screening

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has submitted a list of 18 commissioner nominees to the Borno State House of Assembly for screening.
The submission took place on Friday, 28 July, 2023 as disclosed in a letter to the assembly.
Among the 18 nominees, six have been reappointed for their previous roles.
Governor Zulum reappoints Engr. Mustapha Gubio, Hon. Sainna Buba, Engr. Babagana Mallumbe Mustapha, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, and Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe.

The remaining 12 nominees are new additions to the commissioner positions, while they include Engr. Ibrahim Garba Idris, Engr. Bawu Musami, Engr. Emat Kois, Mr. Tarpaya Asariya, Alh. Babagana Malarima, Ahmed Ali, and Tukur Ibrahim Shani.
Additionally, the list includes Prof. Baba Gana, Prof. Usman A. Tar, Engr. Tijjani Alkali Goni, Hon. Hauwa Abubakar, and Dr. Ibrahim Yusuf Ngoshe.
Similarly, Zulum has sworn in the Head of Service (HoS), Barrister Malam Fannami, and two Special Advisers to the Governor on Communications and Strategy, Malam Isa Gusau and Brig-Gen. Ishaq Sabi (rtd), respectively.
Governor Zulum said workers should imbibe the core values of the Civil Service in delivering various services at the grassroots.
Inaugurating the appointees in Maiduguri, the Governor, represented by his Deputy, Kadafur Usman, said, “The HoS shall pay greater attention to train and re-training of all categories of civil servants,” adding that this include computer training to improve on the development of human and capital resources.
Besides, the training, he said that workers are the catalyst in providing the dividends of democracy and good governance.
He added that the state government will introduce and strengthen the reward and punishment system in the civil service.
According to Kadafur, “We shall reward outstanding performances in the civil service,.
He noted that this will motivate others and punish erring officers, as a deterrence to other workers, he said examinations and interviews are being introduced for permanent secretaries before they are appointed to continue in the Civil Service.
