Recall that Senator Abdullahi Adamu who emerged as the national chairman at the party’s national convention held in March 2022, tendered his resignation letter to the Presidential Villa, Abuja ahead of the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

One of the sources said Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, sent the resignation letter to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Following his resignation, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, emerged as the party’s National Chairman.

A reliable source told newsmen that President Bola Tinubu wanted a reliable and trusted ally at the helm of the party affairs and even though some of the president’s men were kicking against the idea, the president himself was convinced the former Kano State governor was the right man for the job.

It was also gathered that, Ganduje had a pre-take-over meeting with the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

It was learnt that Ganduje had agreed to sacrifice his ministerial ambition to work in the best interest of the party and the country.
