Boko Haram insurgents attack Borno convoy, kill 5, abduct 7 women
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have once again struck, this time targeting a convoy of vehicles transporting goods and passengers in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Tragically, the attack resulted in the loss of five lives and the abduction of seven women.
The incident occurred on Thursday, near the Nigeria-Cameroon border town of Banki, around 2:30 pm.
The convoy, which was under security escort, was moving along the Maiduguri-Bama-Banki route.
Babagana Kaumi, who was traveling on the same route, conveyed the harrowing details via an audio message to The PUNCH.
According to Kaumi, the attack unfolded as “one of the vehicles developed a fault, and when such happens, all the soldiers concentrate their attention on the faulty vehicle until it is repaired before the journey continues.”
Exploiting this momentary vulnerability, the insurgents launched their assault.

“That’s what happened that day; as the soldiers concentrated their attention on a vehicle that developed fault, the insurgents attacked, killing two commuters, the driver of one of the vehicles, and his two assistants, abducted about seven women, and set the convoy ablaze.”
Kaumi revealed that recent attacks by the insurgents typically involved “snatching money and every valuable, including any good pair of shoes from commuters, leaving them to continue the journey alive and unhurt.”
However, the attack on this particular Thursday was notably more aggressive, reflecting an escalating level of hostility.
He further noted, “Of recent, the insurgents only attack such convoys, snatching money and every valuable, including any good pair of shoes from commuters, leaving them to continue the journey alive and unhurt; but last Thursday, they attacked with anger.”
The Nigeria-Cameroon border has become a hotspot for Boko Haram attacks, with security agencies yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
