A former staff of Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Aminu Mahdi, 63, has been apprehended by the police in Adamawa state for the alleged murder of his 43-year-old wife, Hadiza Zubuchi.

According to Mahdi’s account during interrogation, he arrived home at 9:00 PM and, after having his meal and changing his clothes, he sought to sleep.

However, his wife denied him access to their bed. Mahdi claimed that his late wife prevented him from sleeping beside her and proceeded to physically assault him with a stick. In self-defense, he managed to wrestle the stick from her and, in the process, inadvertently caused fatal injuries to her buttocks and chest, ultimately leading to her death.

Expressing remorse for his actions, Aminu Mahdi stated, “I didn’t expect that this kind of incident would happen to me. It was a mistake.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident. The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough investigation and subsequently prosecute the suspect.
