INEC empowered to decide result collation methods – Tribunal rules

The tribunal has issued its verdict on the electronic transmission of results, dismissing Peter Obi and the Labour Party’s petition against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the 2023 presidential polls.

According to the tribunal, there is no law mandating INEC to transfer or electronically transmit the election results from the polling units.

The law grants INEC the authority to determine the means of collating election results in Nigeria.

As reported by Premium Times, the tribunal stated, “The court holds that there is no law mandating INEC to transfer or transmit the election results from the polling units electronically. It emphasizes that the law empowers INEC to choose the method of collating election results in Nigeria.”
