Tinubu urges thorough investigation into fatal boat accidents

President Bola Tinubu has called for a comprehensive investigation to address the recurring tragedies of fatal boat incidents across the nation.

In a statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Tinubu emphasized the need for government agencies to be held accountable for any regulatory or safety lapses that may contribute to such incidents.

He urged the implementation of comprehensive safety measures and enforcement in boating activities throughout the country.

Under the President’s directive, various government agencies, including law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities, will collaborate to identify the root causes of these unfortunate and preventable disasters.

Tinubu also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in recent boat mishaps in the Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger and Gurin village in Fufore LGA, Adamawa.

Expressing solidarity with the governments and people of Niger and Adamawa, Tinubu commended their efforts in mobilizing emergency response teams and volunteers to provide assistance to the victims. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incidents and assured the affected families and communities of the government’s continued support during this difficult period.

In recent incidents, a boat capsized while transporting people to their farms in Njuwa Lake on Friday, resulting in the loss of approximately 15 lives.
Additionally, on Monday, another boat capsized in a river in Gurin, Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa, with numerous passengers on board. Similarly, a boat capsized between the Jebba and Kainji dams in Mokwa Local Government, Niger, on Sunday, leaving 26 bodies recovered and 44 individuals still missing.
