Police, vigilantes beat Dubai returnee to death over mistaken identity
A man who had recently returned from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has been beaten to death by security operatives in Eburumede community, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Tammy Okubama, a loving father of four, was reportedly beaten to death by police operatives assigned to a Rain Oil Filling Station in collaboration with local vigilantes on the early morning of August 25, 2023.
Nathaniel Okubama, Tammy’s younger brother, gave a heartbreaking account of the incident, stating that his sibling was killed and his body discreetly taken to a morgue.
“We are still trying to understand what happened, but it appears he was killed by vigilantes and unidentified policemen,” he revealed.
Nathaniel further explained that the family learned about Tammy’s demise from a staff member at the morgue where his body was discovered.
“The Warri Central Hospital staff called us to notify us that his body was brought to the mortuary by some mobile policemen,” he added.

While the motive behind the attack is still unknown, the family suspects that it may have been a case of mistaken identity.
In response to the tragic incident, members of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide shut down a Rain Oil Filling Station in Ebrumede community, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Additionally, they staged a protest, blocking a section of the Udu Express Road on Monday.
Leading the protest was Jonathan Lokpobiri, President of the IYC, accompanied by other national officers and prominent figures within the community.
Meanwhile, Tammy’s grieving family is demanding justice for their loved one. In a formal petition submitted through C.I. Anyaduba Consults, the family called upon the Delta State Commissioner of Police to conduct a thorough investigation and uncover the truth behind Tammy’s tragic murder.
