United’s title aspirations crumble as Brighton seizes victory, piles pressure on Erik ten Hag

Manchester United endured yet another disappointing defeat at the hands of Brighton, leaving manager Erik ten Hag with a mounting challenge both on and off the field.

Despite high expectations for a Premier League title challenge, the Red Devils fell prey to both the visiting Seagulls and their own shortcomings.

Lisandro Martinez’s nightmarish performance contributed to a resounding loss for United, who now hold just two wins from their first five league games.

Brighton took the lead early on through Danny Welbeck’s goal against the run of play, before Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro extended the visitors’ advantage in the second half.

While luck seemed to evade them, with VAR disallowing a debut goal for Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford shining in the first half, Manchester United failed to mount a comeback in the face of a relentless Brighton. The Seagulls delivered a dominant second half and, despite a stunning strike from youngster Hannibal Mejbrj, it was not enough to salvage a meaningful result from the match.
