Military airstrikes in Borno destroy Boko Haram hideouts, kill scores of terrorists

In a recent development, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralized a number of Boko Haram/Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists through a series of targeted air strikes.

These strikes were carried out in the Tumbuns area on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State.

The precise air strikes effectively obliterated the terrorists’ hideouts and destroyed their structures and strategic logistics base in the region.

The operations specifically targeted Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu between September 27 and September 30, after confirming the presence of terrorists whose activities posed a threat to military formations and law-abiding citizens in the area.

During the operation at Tumbun Fulani, NAF aircraft observed terrorists loading jerricans onto two hidden gun trucks concealed under shrubs.

In response, the NAF scrambled aircraft to interdict the location, believed to be a major logistics base. The subsequent strike resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of the gun trucks, as confirmed by the Battle Damage Assessment.

Similar strikes were carried out at Tumbun Shitu, where structures believed to be terrorist hideouts were identified hidden beneath dense foliage. Three gun trucks carrying terrorists were spotted moving into the area, necessitating the need to strike the location. As a result, numerous terrorists were neutralized, and their trucks were destroyed.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed the success of these airstrikes. He emphasized that the determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the northeast and other parts of the country remains steadfast.

Gabkwet credited the operational gains to improved synergy and cooperation among all security agencies, as well as the unwavering support of the Nigerian people.

These recent strikes demonstrate the AFN’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and beyond. The successful operations serve as a testament to the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and protect the lives and well-being of Nigerians.
