Kano Governorship Crisis: Abba Kabir Yusuf hires Tinubu’s lawyers to regain mandate in Appeal Court
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has hired Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), a renowned legal luminary, to lead the charge to regain his mandate at the Court of Appeal.
This comes after the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sacked Yusuf and declared Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, his opponent from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
Yusuf filed a 42-ground appeal challenging the tribunal’s decision, asking the court to set aside its judgment and strike out the petition of the APC.

A copy of the notice of appeal sighted by this newspaper on Friday reveals that Olanipekun, who headed the legal team of President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), is now the counsel for the Kano state governor.
The legal team for the governor also consists of Bode Olanipekun (SAN), Ibrahim G. Waru, and Akintola Makinde, with Wole Olanipekun & Co as the legal firm handling the appeal while Chief E.O.B. Offiong (APC) remains the counsel for the APC.
