Health Minister directs hospitals to save lives before demanding for police report

In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate emphasized the importance of prioritizing saving lives in hospitals across the country.

The minister expressed concern over the long-standing practice of hospitals demanding police reports before providing treatment to gunshot and accident victims. This requirement has unfortunately resulted in the loss of many lives.

Pate revealed that “the Federal Government has issued a directive, urging hospitals to prioritize saving lives above all else. He shared his disappointment regarding patients who arrive at emergency facilities and are asked for police reports, stating that no individual should lose their life while awaiting such documentation. The minister stressed the need for all hospitals, including private ones, to adopt this mindset and understand that saving lives is the primary goal in healthcare”.

He emphasized that access to affordable and high-quality healthcare is crucial on the path to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
