Kebbi Information Commissioner sponsors 14 vulnerable girls to tertiary schools
The Kebbi State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, has generously sponsored 14 vulnerable girls from impoverished backgrounds to attend tertiary institutions in the state.
This act of support was disclosed in a press release issued by Lukman Hassan, the Media Aide to the Commissioner of Information & Culture in Kebbi State.
This benevolent gesture stems from a promise made by the Commissioner during a visit to the Magajin Rafi Model School in Tudun Wada, Birnin Kebbi.

The visit coincided with a skills acquisition program designed for girls in the neighbourhood. On meeting a group of over 200 girls, he learned of their struggle to pursue further education due to their parents’ financial constraints.
Moved by their plight, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed inquired about their educational qualifications and was surprised to find that many possessed the necessary SSCE grades.
However, most were unable to secure admissions due to their parents’ financial limitations or their unfortunate loss. Expressing deep concern for their predicament, the Commissioner vowed to secure admissions and cover the admission fees for some of them.
Given that the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, the state University, and the state College of Nursing Sciences had already completed their intakes and begun lectures, only the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi was still admitting students.
Swiftly taking action, he secured admission for 14 girls to pursue various courses at the Polytechnic.
Yesterday, Muhammad Abubakar, an aide of the Commissioner, presented the admission papers to the elated girls, delivering the Commissioner’s promise to continue supporting more girls in the coming years.
The girls expressed their gratitude for this kindness and pledged to excel in their education, determined not to disappoint the Commissioner’s faith in them.
