Businessman drags woman to court for calling him ‘adulterer’
A businessman in Kaduna State, Sani Hassan, has taken a woman identified as Maimuna Ishaq to a Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, accusing her of defaming his character by calling him an adulterer.
According to the complainant, Ishaq allegedly spread rumors that he was caught engaging in an extramarital affair with a married woman in his chemist.
He pleaded with the court to restore his tarnished reputation in the community by granting him justice.
In response, the defendant denied the allegations, stating that she never labeled Hassan as an adulterer.

She explained that she attempted to seek forgiveness from the complainant’s father through a community reconciliation effort to resolve the issue amicably and without involving the court.
However, one of the three witnesses presented by the complainant, Maryam, testified that the defendant had indeed approached her and made the alleged defamatory remarks about Hassan’s conduct.
The other two male witnesses, who were part of the reconciliation committee, confirmed that the defendant initially denied spreading the rumor but later admitted to doing so after being questioned multiple times.
The judge, Malam Isiyaku Abdulrahman, adjourned the case to February 1 for further proceedings.
