Following the local government crisis in Rivers State, two security personnel have been killed while on duty.
Although the specifics are unclear, it has been gathered that the tragic deaths occurred in Omuma Local Government Area on Tuesday, likely due to the attack on the council headquarters in Eberi-Omuma.
Addressing the situation, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, noting that a policeman and a vigilante member were among the casualties.
While further details are being investigated and will be released soon, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called for a security council meeting with security agency leaders in response to recent political events in the state.
The closed-door meeting took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, with Governor Fubara later stating that the discussions focused on strategies to combat the invasion of local government offices.
