Dangote settles N100m debt to restore power at Kano varsity

Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) in Wudil, Kano State, has restored its electricity supply following the intervention of the Kano State Government and the Dangote Foundation.

The university was reconnected to the grid by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) on Friday, 5 July 2024, at 4pm.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, stated that the intervention included an initial payment of N100 million from the Dangote Foundation.

The Kano State Government also committed to settling the remaining liabilities for the university and other state MDAs.

Prof. Yakasai highlighted ongoing efforts by the Dangote Foundation to find a permanent solution to the university’s electricity issues, including exploring solar mini grids. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, for their support.

The VC also thanked Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the Dangote Foundation for their crucial role in resolving the electricity issue. He urged the university community to use the restored electricity judiciously and support management’s efforts.
