Yobe State unveils ultra-modern market, roads, boosting trade, rural connectivity

Story by Tawheed Yakub

Residents and traders in Yobe State are witnessing a tangible transformation in their communities, thanks to recent infrastructural projects delivered under Governor Mala Mai Buni’s administration.

The day began in Dawasa village at around 11:00 a.m., where journalists and officials stopped to inspect a newly commissioned 16.2-kilometre road. According to the Honourable Commissioner, the road was designed to ease movement for villagers, especially farmers and local marketers who depend on reliable transport routes to move their goods.

The project has already reduced travel time, improved connectivity, and invigorated socio-economic activity, demonstrating the government’s dedication to rural development and inclusive growth.

By 11:44 a.m., the media tour reached the much-anticipated Potiskum Ultra-Modern Market, a sprawling commercial hub set to redefine trading in the region. With 412 shops, 192 stores, 12 warehouses, three kilometres of internal roads with drainage systems, and fully equipped administrative blocks, the market was carefully planned to create a safe, orderly, and accessible environment for commerce.

As journalists toured the facility, traders and residents could hardly contain their excitement. Many described the market as a long-awaited lifeline, easing congestion, improving hygiene, and opening new business opportunities. “We are grateful to Governor Mai Buni for thinking of us and prioritising our welfare,” one trader said, while others offered prayers for the governor’s continued leadership.

For the people of Yobe State, these projects are more than infrastructure, they symbolize hope, progress, and dignity. From rural roads that connect villages to modern markets that empower entrepreneurs, the state is steadily building a foundation for sustainable economic growth and community prosperity.
