Tinubu awards Customs boss, Adeniyi for excellence in revenue collection (Pictures)
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, received the prestigious “Outstanding Revenue Collection” accolade at the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) on Saturday, July 6, 2024. The award was presented by His Excellency President Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR during a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the event, highlighted the importance of recognising and rewarding exceptional service within the public sector. He stressed that public institutions are not personal enterprises and that public servants are accountable to the Nigerian people.
CGC Adeniyi, appointed as Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023, was acknowledged for his remarkable contributions to revenue generation. In an interview following the award presentation, CGC Adeniyi expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s economy through efficient revenue collection and trade facilitation.
He thanked President Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and NEAPS for the recognition, stating, “This national recognition is a challenge for the Service to double its efforts in making this country proud. It motivates public officials to dedicate themselves and perform diligently in office.”
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, also addressed the award recipients, urging them to continue their exemplary work. He noted that the honourees were selected based on objective criteria from both the public and private sectors.

Senator Akume welcomed attendees to the second edition of NEAPS, mentioning that the inaugural event was held in October 2023 at the same venue. He commended The Best Strategic (TBS) Media for organising the event in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
He highlighted NEAPS as an award that celebrates innovation, leadership, and significant contributions to public service and national development.
Among the 44 recipients of the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President) Senator Ibrahim Hadejia. Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State were also recognised for their sector-specific interventions.
Other notable honourees included FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, President of Dangote Group Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former SGF Boss Mustapha, and Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank Chief Jim Ovia.
NEAPS is an annual recognition programme organised in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), celebrating individuals who have made exceptional contributions to public service within the preceding year.
