IPOB/ESN kill 2 officers in Imo state, police launch manhunt

Unidentified gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed group affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have killed two police officers in Imo State. The attack occurred along old Gariki Road, Okigwe Council Area of the state.

Henry Okoye, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident, stating that the gunmen ambushed the officers while they were on security patrol.

The attackers threw dynamite at the officers, resulting in the death of two officers, while four others survived after engaging in a gunfight.

In response to the attack, Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemned the incident and described it as a gruesome murder. He immediately led operatives to the crime scene for assessment and ordered a joint effort with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.

CP Danjuma urged residents to provide any relevant information that could aid the investigation and assured them of the police’s commitment to ensuring the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear.

The Commissioner extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and reaffirmed the police’s stance against attacks on security personnel in the state. He vowed to intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits and maintain security in Imo State.
