Again, labour unions reject N54,000 minimum wage, continue negotiations
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have again rejected the proposed new minimum wage of N54,000 suggested by the Federal Government.
On Tuesday, the Tripartite Committee set up by President Bola Tinubu proposed N54,000 as minimum wage during a closed-door meeting at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by representatives from both the government and the Labour Unions.

Earlier, the Federal Government offered N48,000 which was also rejected as it was contrary to the N615,000 minimum wage demanded by the NLC and TUC.
According to reports, the meeting was adjourned until Wednesday, May 22, to allow for further negotiations and deliberations.
Meanwhile, the Organised Labour has given the Federal Government an ultimatum to conclude negotiations for a new minimum wage by the end of May 2024.
