Gov. Buni inaugurates Ngalda Modern Market, names facility after Gombe State Governor

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, inaugurated the newly constructed Ngalda Modern Market on Tuesday, naming it after Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya, as the “Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya Modern Market.”
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Buni described the project as part of his administration’s legacy projects in Gombe State, fulfilling campaign promises made to the people of Ngalda and its environs.
The governor revealed that construction of the market and concrete drainage system commenced on June 11, 2024, with an initial completion timeline of 12 months.
According to Governor Buni, the ultra-modern facility boasts 272 shops of various sizes, administrative blocks, mosques, a refuse dump and perimeter fence, pavement and drainage systems, boreholes, a fire service station, police outposts, and a 2.98-kilometre drainage network designed to channel rainwater into the river, a measure aimed at addressing the perennial flooding that has plagued Ngalda town for years.

The governor commended the contractor, a family investment company, for executing the project in strict compliance with contractual agreements and completing it two months ahead of schedule.
Highlighting the economic significance of the market, Governor Buni noted that the Ngalda weekly market is one of the most thriving in the state, attracting traders from across the country with substantial commercial turnover.
“The new modern market will increase economic activities in this area, enhance job opportunities and income generation for the people, and also promote commerce and innovation,” he stated.
He urged residents to take ownership of the facility, ensure its cleanliness, and utilise it optimally to guarantee value for government expenditure.

He also charged market authorities to implement measures to prevent revenue leakages and ensure all generated revenue is remitted to government coffers.
He further expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the leadership and support that enabled the successful completion of the project.
