EFCC arrests suspected ‘yahoo-yahoo’ boys undergoing training in cybercrimes

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has conducted a raid on a suspected “yahoo-yahoo school” in Uyo, and arrested 24 individuals believed to be undergoing training in fraudulent activities.

Mr. Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, released a statement confirming the arrests.

The operation, based on intelligence, targeted a storey building suspected to serve as a criminal hideout for training internet fraudsters.

The locations identified for the sting operation were D-Line Ewet Housing Estate and Nelson Mandela area in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The suspects, all males, were taken into custody, and the EFCC seized various items from the premises, including five exotic cars, 18 laptops, 17 mobile phones, and one internet router.

Oyewale stated that the suspects would face charges in court once the investigations are concluded.

The operation and many others are part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and related fraudulent activities, contributing to the agency’s commitment to curbing financial crimes in Nigeria.
