Anambra authorities arrest pastor over alleged wife-swapping, multiple marriage claims
The Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of Pastor Harrison Charles, founder of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, over allegations of marrying dozens of women and promoting wife-swapping practices among members of his church. Investigations into the claims are ongoing.
According to state authorities, the cleric was apprehended by operatives of the state’s security outfit following the circulation of viral videos containing various allegations against him. He has since been handed over to the police for further investigation in collaboration with the Anambra State Government.

The pastor has been accused by alleged victims and former church members of persuading married women to leave their husbands and become his wives. Some claims allege that as many as 75 women were involved. He is also accused of encouraging wife-swapping arrangements within the congregation, among other alleged misconduct. Authorities have stressed that these allegations remain under investigation and have not been proven in court.
Officials further disclosed that approximately 11 babies were found at the pastor’s residence during the arrest operation. According to the government, the cleric claimed the children were his and were born by some of his wives. Authorities said efforts are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine whether any laws were violated.

The arrest comes amid an ongoing crackdown by the Anambra State Government on individuals accused of operating fraudulent religious ministries and engaging in activities deemed contrary to state laws.
