HISBA Boss, Malam Daurawa resigned amidst controversy
In the early morning of March 1st, 2024, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa resigned from his position as the head of Hizba.
His resignation came shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State publicly criticized the agency’s approach, particularly the ‘Operation Kau da Badala,’ aimed at enforcing Islamic values and curbing immorality.
During his resignation announcement, Daurawa expressed his dismay over the responses and opinions from Kano state, citing his efforts to combat immorality by engaging with Kannywood filmmakers and TikTokkers.
He mentioned providing financial support to those who complied with Hisbah’s agenda but acknowledged that some continued to disregard their advice.

Governor Yusuf, voiced dissatisfaction with Hisbah’s methods, condemning the use of violence and force in apprehending individuals engaged in immoral activities.

Yusuf urged agencies like Hisbah to focus on guiding youth toward righteous paths through constructive means, emphasizing the need for alignment with community values and respect for individual rights.
He highlighted concerns about the potential backlash and negative impact on youth if enforcement actions were perceived as excessive or abusive, emphasizing the importance of fostering obedience through positive engagement rather than coercion.
