Nigeria’s Darkest Hour: Cry for help, call to conscience, plea for peace, by Sakinat Musa Abubakar

Nigeria, our beloved country, is torn apart by protests, violence, and bloodshed. Our children, once full of hope and promise, are now caught in the midst of chaos. Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all leaders of Nigeria, listen attentively to the pleas of the masses. The Senate, Representatives, Ministers, and every holder of public office, remember that power is entrusted to you by the people.

The youth, once patient and hopeful, have reached their breaking point. They will no longer tolerate embezzlement, corruption, and the suffocation of their dreams. The streets are filled with their cries, and their anger simmers just below the surface. You were elected to serve, not to enrich yourselves. You were entrusted with the nation’s coffers, not to loot them.

Oh, dear youth, why must you resort to destruction and looting? Is this the change you desire? Have you forgotten the values of our ancestors, who taught us to resolve conflicts with dialogue and respect? Mr. President, our leader, we beg of you – please, hear our cry! Act swiftly to address the grievances of our youth. Provide them with a platform to express themselves, to be heard and understood.

We’ve lost too many lives already. The streets are stained with the blood of our brothers and sisters. The wails of the bereaved echo through our cities. How many more must die before we learn to talk, to listen, and to understand? Let us choose peace, dear Nigeria. Let us choose love, compassion, and forgiveness.

Develop this nation, provide for its people, and ensure their welfare. Create opportunities, stimulate growth, and empower the youth. Failure to do so will invite consequences, and the people will not be silenced. Remember, the Arab Spring, the Occupy Movement, and the French Revolution were all sparked by the frustration and desperation of the masses. Nigeria’s youth are equally frustrated, equally desperate.

Heed this warning, leaders: change your ways, prioritise the people, and develop this nation. For if you don’t, the people will rise, and it might not be peaceful. The choice is yours. The masses will no longer be silenced, no longer be oppressed. They demand a better Nigeria, and they demand it now. Lead with integrity, lead with compassion, or face the wrath of the people. The clock ticks, and the nation waits.
