Edo reports 3 suspected cases of Mpox, urges vigilance among residents
The Edo State’s Director of Public Health, Stephenson Ojeifo, has announced that three suspected cases of Mpox have been identified in the state.
Although the cases have not been confirmed, Ojeifo urged residents to remain vigilant.
The suspected cases are currently being treated at two hospitals in the state – Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital and Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.
As a precautionary measure, the patients have been isolated, and samples have been sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja for testing.

According to him, the symptoms of Mpox were similar to other skin rashes, prompting extra caution from health officials.
Fortunately, the patients are reported to be in stable condition as part of the state’s enhanced surveillance initiatives.
In response to the potential threat, the ministry has strengthened its surveillance efforts across all healthcare facilities, including both public and private sectors within Edo State.
Ojeifo highlighted that, although the state has handled monkeypox cases before, the current situation is being treated with heightened seriousness, in alignment with alerts from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa Centre for Disease Control.
Mpox is a viral infection primarily transmitted through close contact with an infected individual or animal, as well as through contaminated objects.
