PDP acting chair, BoT members, Ahmad Lawan pay condolence visit to Yobe gov’t

Story by Sa’adatu MAINA, Kasim Isa MUHAMMAD, Damaturu

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, led members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), along with members of the Board Of Trustees (BoT), to Damaturu, Yobe state capital, to condole with the government and people of the state over the recent attack by Boko Haram in Tarmuwa local government (Mafa) and also flooding that affected millions of citizens.

In a statement released by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Ambassador Damagum praised Governor Buni’s inclusive leadership style, stating, “I must appreciate you for giving everyone a sense of belonging and fulfillment, despite our political differences.”

Speaking at the presidential lodge Damaturu, the PDP National Chairman said they were in Yobe to commiserate with the Yobe State Government as well as people of the state over the dastardly act of Boko Haram insurgents that claimed the lives of so many people in Mafa village.

The PDP Chairman said the incident is something of great concern, which is why they defied all political differences to be in the state and mourn with the state government.

“We experienced flood disasters in the northern part of Yobe, we are just coming from Maiduguri to commiserate with them over the recent flood as we also have our own share. I know the task is too much on you your Excellency sir.

“People are deprived of their farm lands because of flood and we know there is no amount of resources that can replace those losses, but all the same it is an act of God,” he said.

Ambassador Damagum further consoled that those who lost their loved ones to senseless people (terrorists) should believe that it is also the will of God.

“I think it is high time for all of us to close rank and make sure that we have the desired peace and development to move this state forward as Yobe State is very dear to all of us,” Damagum added.

The PDP chairman expressed the party’s solidarity with the people of Yobe, sharing their pain and trauma from the senseless killings and flood-related hardships

Similarly, former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan also paid a condolence visit to Governor Buni, offering prayers for the victims of the Mafa attack and floods.

Lawan prayed for the souls of the departed to be granted Aljannatul Firdaus and for their families to find solace.

Responding, Governor Mai Mala Buni appreciated the distinguished guests for their concerns and for embarking on the sympathy visit to Yobe State.
