Cholera: State govt confirms 3 more deaths, 69 cases

The Ebonyi State Government has confirmed three additional deaths from the recent cholera outbreak, bringing the total death toll to 13. The outbreak, which initially claimed 10 lives in Ndibokote village of Ezza Inyimagu in the Izzi local government area, has now spread across the state, with 69 cases confirmed.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, provided an update on Saturday, explaining that those affected are currently receiving treatment in various centres across the state. He assured the public that the government’s rapid response, including the deployment of health workers and procurement of medical supplies approved by Governor Francis Nwifuru, has helped control the spread of the disease.

“There’s no need for panic,” Ekuma said, noting that no new cases had been reported in the last 24 hours. He urged residents to practice preventive measures and promptly report suspected cases to the Ministry of Health or accredited local health facilities for immediate assistance.
