A shocking video circulating on social media shows a young man in southwestern Nigeria confessing to participating in a kidnapping ring that kills victims to harvest their kidneys.
In the video, the man, appearing to be in his early twenties, admits that he and his accomplices commit these murders for as little as N25,000 (approximately $32 USD). While the video has gone viral, it has received limited attention from mainstream Nigerian media.
In the footage, the suspect is surrounded by a crowd and has a tire around his neck, often a prelude to “jungle justice” in Nigeria, where mobs sometimes take matters into their own hands by burning suspects alive. It is unclear what ultimately happened to the young man, as his fate remains unverified.
The video has intensified concerns over the rising issue of organ trafficking in Nigeria. Kidney harvesting has become increasingly prevalent, with vulnerable individuals being either lured or forcibly taken for their organs.
Recent reports, including a Daily Trust documentary, have documented instances of people in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, willingly selling their kidneys due to economic hardship.
Additionally, kidnappings for organ harvesting have become a more frequent occurrence, driven by the high demand for kidneys and other organs in the illegal market.

This incident comes on the heels of other cases of organ trafficking and ritual killings, particularly in the southwest, where some individuals are targeted for their body parts, believed to hold spiritual or economic value. The issue of illegal organ trade gained international attention with the recent case involving Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who is serving a jail sentence in the United Kingdom for attempting to harvest a kidney for his daughter.
The case has sparked debate over organ trafficking and brought further attention to the dangers posed by this illicit industry.
As public outrage grows, calls are mounting for Nigerian authorities to take action to combat these practices. Community leaders and human rights advocates have urged the government to strengthen law enforcement, increase public safety, and address the underlying socioeconomic issues that drive some to engage in such heinous acts.
