Chelsea triumph over Aston Villa to climb 3rd on Premier League table

Chelsea secured an impressive 3-0 victory against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to six matches across all competitions.

Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the seventh minute, volleying home Marc Cucurella’s cross to notch his eighth goal of the season. Despite protests from Villa over an alleged foul in the build-up, the goal stood, giving Chelsea early control.

Enzo Fernandez doubled the lead in the 36th minute with a sharp finish from 12 yards, further frustrating Villa. Cole Palmer sealed the win in the 83rd minute, delivering a sublime strike from the edge of the box, marking his eighth goal of the campaign.

The win propelled Chelsea level on points with second-placed Arsenal and solidified their position as serious contenders for Champions League qualification. Manager Enzo Maresca, however, downplayed title aspirations, citing the ongoing rebuilding process.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, continued their struggles, extending their winless run to eight matches. Currently in 12th place, Villa’s last league triumph remains a distant memory following their Champions League success over Bayern Munich in October.

Elsewhere in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of a top-four finish took a hit after a 1-1 draw against 10-man Fulham. Brennan Johnson gave Spurs the lead in the 54th minute, but Fulham’s Tom Cairney equalised with a curling strike in the 67th minute. Cairney was later shown a red card for a challenge on Dejan Kulusevski after a VAR review.

Chelsea now stand as a team to watch in their pursuit of a Champions League spot, while Aston Villa faces mounting pressure to end their dismal run.
