2024 CGC Awards: Customs Boss honours outstanding officers at excellence ‘Awards Night’
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, hosted the 2024 CGC Excellence Awards Night in Abuja on Friday, 29th November, showcasing a commitment to fostering professionalism and recognising outstanding performance within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The annual event, held at a prestigious venue, celebrated officers who distinguished themselves in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations. Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the National Assembly, and law enforcement agencies, attended the ceremony.
Prominent guests included Mr Olawale Edun, Chairman of the Nigeria Customs Service Board and Representative of the Minister of Finance; Senator Isah Jibril, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs; Hon Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise; and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun praised the collaborative efforts between the NCS and the Nigeria Police Force, highlighting their shared commitment to national security, trade facilitation, and revenue generation.

“The synergy between the NCS and the Police is a cornerstone of our national security strategy,” the IGP stated, urging the continuation of such partnerships.
Addressing attendees, CGC Adeniyi emphasised the importance of celebrating achievements within the Service.
“This strategic shift springs from our belief that positive reinforcement nurtures a more dynamic, motivated, and high-performing workforce,” he said.
The CGC described the awards as a move away from punitive measures towards rewarding excellence. He acknowledged challenges faced by the Service, including a 15% revenue deficit carried over from 2023, and reaffirmed the commitment to overcoming obstacles.
He urged officers to remain united and uphold values of integrity, professionalism, and humanity in serving the nation.
Ali Muhammad, Director of Home Finance at the Ministry of Finance, representing the Honourable Minister, commended CGC Adeniyi’s visionary leadership.

“Recognising excellence among officers not only motivates them but also boosts productivity across the board,” Muhammad said.
Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Folusho Adeogun, Liaison Officer for the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN), was among the award recipients. The recognition highlighted her exceptional dedication and contributions to the professionalism.
The awards night reinforced the Nigeria Customs Service’s dedication to fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism. The event inspired officers to continue their service with renewed pride and commitment to the nation.
