IPOB terrorists kidnap Enugu Catholic priest

Story by Victor Itodo ABUH

A Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Gerald Ohaeri, serving under the Nsukka Diocese, has been reportedly kidnapped by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to sources, Ohaeri was abducted on Saturday evening, November 30, 2024, while travelling from Enugu to his Isienu-Nsukka parish. The incident occurred on the notorious Enugu-Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road.

It remains unclear how many people were abducted alongside the priest. Reports indicate that the same criminals had also attempted to kidnap a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Reacting to the incident, security escorts of the Deputy Governor of Enugu State arrived at the scene in an attempt to rescue the victims.

Residents and road users have expressed concern that despite heavy security presence along the road, kidnappers continue to operate freely, making travel along the route dangerous.

At the time of reporting, inquiries sent to the Enugu State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, had not been answered. The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
