Police nab suspected IPOB terrorists, cultists, rescue sexually abused victims

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have apprehended two suspected cultists and armed robbers during a raid in Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Okechukwu Chinwuko, 27, and Ezenwa Chinedu, 22, were found in possession of various weapons and incriminating items.
According to a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests followed a raid on a notorious black spot in Umunaga Village on Saturday night.
Ikenga explained, “Police operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State in the late hours of Saturday, December 7, 2024, acting on credible information, raided an identified black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South LG.”
He further stated that the operation led to the recovery of one pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. In addition, two female victims who had been sexually abused were rescued during the raid.
The suspects are currently being interrogated, with investigations ongoing to uncover the details of their operations.
In a related development, police operatives from the Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Headquarters recovered a white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus with registration number AKL 896 XB, along with a roller and other items on the same day. The recovery occurred during an intervention to prevent the vandalisation of an MTN mast generator near Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Umudege.

Ikenga noted that the perpetrators fled upon sighting the police team. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing criminals, and the police have urged residents to provide any useful information that could assist in their capture.
