Hisbah confiscates cartons of alcohol at Sokoto Motor Park

The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has seized over 200 cartons of suspected alcoholic beverages during a recent operation at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
Parading the confiscated items at the Hisbah office on Wednesday, the state Hisbah Commander, Usman Jatau, stated that no individual had come forward to claim ownership of the seized goods.
He added that the board would seek guidance from the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General on the next steps regarding the items.
Jatau reiterated that the regulations governing residents’ conduct were not aimed at causing disorder or targeting specific individuals but were established to guide behaviour in line with Islamic principles.
Addressing residents, he appealed:
“Let me appeal to the people to fear Allah (SWT) in all our dealings and avoid all prohibited activities, such as mingling between males and females. Dress codes and social interactions must align with Islamic law.
“Taking advantage of any place or hideout for immoral acts is prohibited. Assaulting or cheating fellow Muslims, directly or indirectly, must also be shunned.
“All ceremonies, celebrations, and anniversaries must be conducted in accordance with Sharia teachings. Selling or distributing illicit substances or drugs at public gatherings or events is strictly forbidden.”
The commander called on residents to adhere strictly to Islamic teachings and avoid engaging in any activities deemed unlawful by Sharia law.
