Police arrest ex-convict for armed robbery 2 days after release from jail
An ex-convict, John Agbontean has been arrested by operatives of Edo State Police Command over alleged robbery.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Joel Yamu said the suspect was arrested in connection with a robbery incident at the Restoration Gospel Ministry, situated at no. 11 Oviasuyi Street off Ogiemwenke in Benin City.

The PPRO said Agbontean’s arrest came two days after he had served a jail term for another crime.
The suspect was arrested with a cut-to-size gun while attempting to rob the church.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being an ex-convict who gained his freedom from Oko Prison, Benin-City on 19/12/2024.
“He stated that he and his accomplice, one Ola whose surname is unknown now at large, conspired to rob the aforementioned church of the proceeds from the Church’s end-of-year harvest thanksgiving where he was arrested in the process while his accomplice narrowly escaped arrest”, the statement added.
