Police intensify search for Anambra lawmaker, recover vehicle

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered the vehicle belonging to Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Christmas Eve.

The lawmaker, who represents Onitsha North Local Government Area, was reportedly abducted while heading home for the Christmas holiday. His Ford car was later found abandoned at Upper Iweka Road, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga revealed that police operatives attached to the Inland Town Division had been conducting an intense operation to locate and rescue the lawmaker since the abduction occurred.

“The recovery of the vehicle followed an ongoing operation by the police. A separate rescue team sighted the abandoned vehicle at Upper Iweka Road,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police has directed the rescue team to ramp up efforts to locate and secure Hon. Azuka’s release. As of the time of this report, there has been no confirmation of contact from the kidnappers or any demand for ransom.

This incident has added to concerns about the increasing spate of insecurity in Anambra State, particularly during the festive season. Residents and political figures alike have called for enhanced security measures to prevent such occurrences.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the ongoing operation.
