Vice Principal, child among three killed as terrorists attack School in Kogi
Three people, including a vice principal and a six-year-old child, were killed when armed bandits attacked a school community in Kogi State on Wednesday.
The attackers reportedly invaded Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, located in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, in what security authorities believe was an attempted mass abduction.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, the assailants arrived on about 40 motorcycles and launched the attack around 10:00 a.m., causing panic among students, staff, and residents.
Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Afusat said the Divisional Police Officer of Kabba ‘A’ Division quickly mobilised a joint security response after receiving distress calls. Personnel from the police, tactical units, the Police Mobile Force, military forces, and local vigilantes were deployed to the scene.
The combined security team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes before they could carry out their mission.

Authorities said preliminary investigations had not established any successful mass abduction of students or residents during the attack.
The victims were identified as Mr. Ganiyu Anifowose, Vice Principal of UBE Secondary/Primary School, Iluke; Mr. Sunday Jacob Alhassan, aged 70; and six-year-old Sunday Ayele.
Police also confirmed that one of the attackers was killed during the exchange of gunfire, while a member of the joint security team sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered sustained bush-combing operations and intensified patrols across the affected area to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.

The command appealed to residents to remain calm and continue providing useful information that could assist ongoing security operations and investigations.
The attack has once again highlighted growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi State, particularly attacks targeting schools and rural communities.
