How we killed Delta DPO, arrested car thief confesses
Sapele-born suspect, Ogaga Dickson, leads police to unravel a notorious car theft and robbery gang.
Ogaga Dickson, the leader of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of Delta State Police Command’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Hassan Jega, has recounted the chilling details of his criminal activities. Dickson was apprehended on November 1, 2024, following his gang’s October operation that tragically claimed the life of the DPO during a gun battle.
In a confession, Dickson revealed how financial difficulties in his welding career led him into petty car theft. Initially introduced to the underworld by an acquaintance, John Linus, Dickson began stealing cars parked in public spaces using a master key. Over time, his operations escalated to armed robbery, targeting luxury vehicles.
Dickson disclosed how his gang’s October 2024 robbery ended in tragedy. After snatching a Toyota Hilux, his accomplices engaged police officers in a gunfight in Agbarho, Warri, unaware they had fatally wounded CSP Jega. “We didn’t know he was the DPO,” Dickson admitted.

The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police swiftly tracked and arrested Dickson and his accomplices, including the buyer of stolen vehicles, Chibike Umeh. During the operation, the police recovered several firearms, ammunition, and six exotic vehicles.
Umeh, who admitted to being a buyer of stolen cars, revealed he was introduced to the illicit trade by a soldier. He stated, “I bought stolen vehicles at cheaper rates but stopped after seeing Dickson with an AK-47 during a video call.”
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the police’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks. Dickson and his gang now face prosecution, with hopes that their arrest will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities.
