Three sisters bag death sentence for brutal murder in 2021
Justice Balkisu Gambo Yusuf of Minna High Court Number 7 has convicted three siblings, Amina Aliyu, Aishat Mohammed, and Zainab Aliyu of culpable homicide for the 2021 killing of Hafsat Aliyu in the Barkin Saleh area of Minna, Niger State.
Aishat Aliyu was accused of striking Hafsat with a pestle and setting her body ablaze in the kitchen. Following a thorough trial, the court sentenced Amina Aliyu and Aishat Mohammed to death by electrocution.
Zainab Aliyu, who was a teenager at the time of the crime, was sentenced to life imprisonment due to legal protections for minors under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

The prosecution, supported by testimony from four witnesses, including Hafsat’s husband, Alhaji Muhammad Sani, successfully proved the charges of joint act and culpable homicide.
The defense counsel, Barrister Peter Omale, sought leniency for Zainab, citing her age at the time of the crime.
This verdict marks the end of a three-year legal battle that began with the siblings’ arraignment at the Minna Chief Magistrate Court.
