Anambra closes brothel, evacuates 10 sex workers

The Anambra State Government, through its Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, has closed down a notorious brothel in Amawbia, located in the Awka South Local Government Area.

According to reports, the brothel (name withheld) has been a hotspot for various criminal activities, including the exploitation of underage sex workers, drug trafficking, and harboring armed robbers.

During a raid conducted by the operatives of the OCHA Brigade, at least 10 sex workers, including underage girls, were rescued.

In a statement released on Thursday, Celestine Anere, the Managing Director of the agency, explained that the operation followed extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Anere emphasized that the brothel had been involved in a range of illegal activities, from drug trafficking to the exploitation of minors.

“The facility also served as a hideout for armed robbers and other criminals,” Anere said. “We are determined to ensure that those responsible for operating this illegal establishment are apprehended and prosecuted, serving as a warning to others involved in similar criminal activities in the state.”
